VAN NUYS – An 18-year-old construction worker was shot and killed early Friday morning and police are asking for public help in the case. Pedro Alvarez of Van Nuys was walking near the 6300 block of Kester Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when two men in a car pulled up alongside him, police said. Police said one of the men asked Alvarez a question and then shot him in the chest. Alvarez was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
